2020 GUIDELINES

The BLS Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or non-certified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals.  As of January 1st, 2011 all professionals working in the dental field are now required to obtain an American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Provider CPR certification.

Course Description

The Heartcode BLS Course is a blended course. The online portion course uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities to teach students BLS knowledge and skills. After completing the online portion, students attend a structured BLS Hands-On Session with an AHA Instructor. This session focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing.

Description

Basic Life Support is designed for healthcare professionals who need Basic Life Support training for their clinical duties. Utilizing a variety of Cognitive Assessment Activities and interactive activities, this program teaches BLS knowledge and skills. This training provides consistency and adaptability to different learning styles. Debriefings and coaching are provided.  Students who successfully complete the cognitive portion and the hands-on session will receive an AHA BLS Provider course completion card (eCard), valid for two years.

HeartCode® BLS Online is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program that uses adaptive learning technology to allow learners to acquire and demonstrate Basic Life Support skills using a personalized learning path that adapts in real time to a learner’s performance. The program is designed for healthcare professionals who need Basic Life Support training for their clinical duties. Utilizing a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, Cognitive Assessment Activities, illustrations, knowledge checks and interactive activities, this program teaches BLS knowledge and skills. This method of learning provides training consistency and adaptability to different learning styles. Students can work at their own pace applying their knowledge to real-time decision making. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each knowledge check and each Cognitive Assessment Activity. Students who successfully complete the cognitive portion and the hands-on session (skills) will receive an AHA BLS Provider course completion card (eCard), valid for two years.

Audience

For anyone with little or no medical training who needs CPR AED training and a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements.

The American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED Online course provides high-quality training in CPR, and AED use. This course equips individuals and workplaces with the confidence to respond effectively to medical emergencies until emergency responders arrive.

Heartsaver CPR AED is designed to meet job or regulatory requirements (i.e. OSHA). The blended learning course format is a convenient way to learn at your own pace and schedule.

The Heartsaver CPR AED course is designed for individuals with little or no medical background. It is ideal for anyone who wants to be prepared to respond effectively to emergencies at work, home, or in the community.

Course Learning Objectives:

After successfully completing the CPR AED portion of this course, students should be able to:
• Describe how high-quality CPR improves survival
• Explain the concept of the Chain of Survival
• Recognize when someone needs CPR
• Describe how to perform CPR with help from others
• Demonstrate giving effective breaths by using mouth-to-mouth or a mask for all ages
• Demonstrate performing high-quality CPR for an adult, a child, and an infant
• Demonstrate using an AED on an adult and on a child
• Describe when and how to help a choking adult or child
• Demonstrate how to help a choking infant

Note: Course objectives may vary depending on the specific topics taught.

Upon successful completion, students receive a Heartsaver CPR AED Course Completion Card, valid for two years.

This product has been updated to reflect the latest science and education from the 2025 Guidelines for CPR & ECC. It replaces Heartsaver CPR AED Online (20-1401).

This class is a blended format.  You will do a portion of the class online, then meet with an instructor to complete the certification process.  This is accepted by DCFS and other governing bodies because you meet with an instructor AFTER the online portion is complete.  You will receive the same card as if you came to the 6-8 hour class.

Audience

The AHA’s Heartsaver courses are designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs first aid and/or CPR training and a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. Heartsaver courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared to act in an emergency.

    The Heartsaver® Total - First Aid CPR AED course is designed for individuals with little or no medical background who need first aid, AED and CPR training to meet work or other regulatory requirements like OSHA. It is also ideal for anyone who wants to be prepared to respond effectively to emergencies at work, home, or in the community.
