Course Description

The BLS Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or non-certified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals.  As of January 1st, 2011 all professionals working in the dental field are now required to obtain an American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Provider CPR certification.

Intended Audience

Healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician’s assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel.

Blended Learning - This is a two part process. Please read below.

The American Red Cross CPR/AED Only program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac emergencies. The courses in this program teach the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care while waiting for advanced medical care. This course is offered in a blended (online learning with instructor-led skill session) format.

The CPR/AED Only program includes the following modules:
-CPR (Adult/Child/Infant)
-AED (Adult/Child/Infant)
-Relief of Choking (Adult/Child/Infant)

Course Requirements for Blended Learning (online learning, in-person skill session):
-Complete all lessons of the online learning session and pass the online assessment with a score of at least 80 percent.
-Participate in all course activities.
-Demonstrate competency in all required skills.
-Successfully complete the Putting It All Together Assessment Scenarios.

Online Course Time Commitment:
-2 to 3 hours

In-Person Skill Session Time Commitment:
-2 hours

The courses in this program teach the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed. This course is offered in a blended (online learning with instructor-led skill session) format.

The First Aid/CPR/AED program includes the following modules:
-First Aid
-CPR (Adult/Child/Infant)
-AED (Adult/Child/Infant)

Course Requirements for Blended Learning (online learning, in-person skill session):
-Complete all lessons of the online learning session and pass the online assessment with a score of at least 80 percent.

Course Description

The Heartcode BLS Course is a blended course. You will have to purchase the online portion from American Heart Association separately. The online portion course uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities to teach students BLS knowledge and skills. After completing the online portion, students attend a structured BLS Hands-On Session with an AHA Instructor. This session focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing.
